Looking for HELP in English

Beitrag von prof_braino »

Hi All

Greetings!

I am on the PropForth team:

http://code.google.com/p/propforth/

We wish port PropForth to the Hive hardware. drohne235 is sending me boards which I will attempt to build to be used as our development platforms.

Would any of you be willing to help with the translation of the instructions? I wish to make an English language website for Hive construction and operation. The plan is to start with Google Translate, and proofread for errors.

I am setting up at Google Sites, for the time being; if we can make progress I can pursue purchasing a permanent domain. Right now everything is blank.

https://sites.google.com/site/robothomeschool/

Also, I would like to find people to help translate and/or answer on PropForth if any questions come in from German speakers.

Thanks!

braino

Hi braino,

first: my english is not so good...

you finds here a initial manual, in german, to build your hive computer -> http://hive-project.de/support/build-your-hive
a build manual, also in german, is here: http://hive-project.de/support/build-your-hive-teil-1

---

Kann ein Forenmitglied die Bauanleitung für unsere englisch sprachigen Mitglieder übersetzen?

Hi Borg Konig (Sorry I don't have accent marks on my keyboard)

Thanks for your reply. Your English is better than many of the people that live here in Chicago.

Thanks for the links. I ran those pages through Google Translate, and posted the results.

https://sites.google.com/site/robothomeschool/ Now has links for

https://sites.google.com/site/robothome ... ve-project
https://sites.google.com/site/robothome ... -your-hive
https://sites.google.com/site/robothome ... e---part-1
https://sites.google.com/site/robothome ... ject---faq

The pages contain the line-by-line translation from German to English.
I plan to delete the German for each line that is confirmed to be correctly translated into English.

If there is a German speak that is fluent in English, I would like to give that person(s) edit permission for the pages.
Otherwise, I will go through each line as I build my unit, and ask in this forum if any line seems confusing.

I appreciate all help and feedback!

Also, I will try to post in the regular forums that I am available as a resource for PropForth.

Hello braino,

the following is a Short Instruktion/ Translation of the Build Manual:

First:

* You have the Necessary Components
* You have the PCB
* You have the List of Components
* you have the Placement Plan
* You have a Multimeter (for Passage and Voltage check), a Soldering Iron and all other necessary Tools

Its all Available? OK, here we go:

The Power Supply:

Building Elements:
* X7 Hollow Socket
* D1 Diode
* C1-C3 Electrolyte Condenser
* IC1/2 Voltage Regulator (3.3V and 5V)
* Powerled
* R1 Resistor
* Jumper
* D4 D5 Z-Diode

All Parts available? Ok, use the Placement Plan for the Position of Components and solder it. Next, use a Universal PowerSuply (set up to 7.5V or more (lower than 12V, higher Voltage leads to Overheating and Destruct the Voltage Regulators!)) and Attach it to the Hollow Socket. Now check the Voltages 3.3V and 5V on the Voltage Regulators. The Voltage (3.3V and 5V) must be correct to the Available Voltage regulators! Please check this at least 2 times.

Its this OK? If not, check the Position of the Components, if you used the correct Components and Solder joints to cold. The operational LED illuminates, when the Circuit is correct.

Ok, i think your Voltage Regulator Circuit works correct. The next Task is...:

Hostinterface:

Building Elements:
* Socket for Max232
* C4-8 Electrolyte Condenser
* R2-4 Resistors
* S1 Dip Switch
* T1 Transistor
* HOST Mini Din Connector

* IC3 MAX232

Use the Placement Plan for the Position of Components and solder it. Up on the MAX232 all Components soldered onto the Circuit Board. As a Test is measured (IC3 without the Base stuck to) the Operating Voltage is correct. It should be noted that the MAX232 is 5V supply Voltage. Is only when this Test is ok, the MAX232 itself equipped. For the supply Vircuit is complete.

The next Task is the Adapter Cable (for the Conection, over the MAX232 Interface, to Your PC)

Building Elements:
* Mini Din Adapter (4 Pin)
* 4-core Cable
* Serial connection Plug and Bag

OK, solder the serial Cable. Use the Image for correctly Soldering the Cable. Check the Soldering with a Multimeter for Passage. Its it correct? If NO, compare Your Cable with the Image and correct it if necessary.

Now, we are Ready for Soldering the first Propeller µC. The following Step is the Solder on the Circuit Board.

First of three Parallax Propeller µC's - Bellanatrix

Building Elements:
* 40 Pin Socket
* 8 Pin Socket for EEProm
* Q1 5MHz Quartz
* Cx 100nF Supporting Capacitor
* HB1LED Heartbeat Led (You can solder all three Heartbeats Leds)
* R26-R28 Resistors
* R30 PullUp Resistor on EEProm

Use the Placement Plan for the Position of Components and solder it. When Equipping the Quartz should be paid to a sufficient Distance from the Metal Housing to the Circuit Board, possibly to avoid Short-Circuits to Vias. Up on the Propeller µC all Components soldered onto the Circuit Board. Ok, now chec whether the EEProm Socket and the 40 pin Socket (for the Propeller µC) lie, 3.3v. Its correct? If Yes, put the EEProm and the Propeller µC in their Socket.

The following Step is the Check for Funktion:

This is done in these 5 Steps:

1. Connect the serial Cable to the board and the Computer and (Re)Start your Computer
2. Connect your Power Suply with the Circuit Board
3. Set the Dip Switches for the Bellanantrix (the first Propeller µC in this Test/ Circuit Board) - 3 and 6 up ON
4. Start the Propeller Tool Software and Check the Connection with this to the Circuit Board (and the Propeller µC)
Can the Software see the Propeller µC? If YES, go the following Steps. If NOT, check all Parts for correct Soldering etc.

4. Now Send the "test hbeat-led.spin” to the Propeller µC. The Heartbeat LED would then Flash in one second Frequency... Its works Correkt? If YES, flash the Testfile to EEProm, power of the Hive Board, disconnect it from Your PC and turn it on again.
5. He starts out by EEProm without Problems, then the Circuit Correctly. You can, for Safety, check the Circuit again using the Switching Plans. But it should now run without Errors.

OK, that's it for now. Firstonce so You should be able to Work. I meet the other Steps translate into 1-2 Days.

These Instructions I translated with Google Translate (50%), the Rest comes from my Spring. I hope I could help you. if not, ask simple:)

Thanks Borg Konig

Is is OK to put your instructions on the English site https://sites.google.com/site/robothomeschool/?

I just found the parts list (BOM) on the wiki page, but it chokes Google Translate.

While I wait for the boards to arrive, tasks are:

-Translate the BOM
-Buy the parts
-Clean off my work bench (this is the most challenging)

I expect the boards next week, if shipping from Europe is 2 weeks.

I downloaded the BOM from wiki, and made the following translation using google translate:

----------------------------------------------
Wert Value
??? Gehau Gehau
Liefer Delivery
??? Einzelpreis Price
??? Gesamtpreis Price

widerstand resistance
??? Reichelt Reichelt
METALL METAL

??? elko elko
Kondensator Capacitor
??? Blockkondensator Block capacitor
??? Schultzdiode Schultz diode
Leuchtdiode LED
Schaltkreis Circuit
Schaltkreise Circuits
??? Festspanniungsregler Festspanniungsregler
Quarz Quartz
Buchsenleiste Receptacle
Stiftleiste Pin header
Slot Slot
Buchse Hohlstecker Female DC Plug
Buchse Bush
Griffschale Grip
Leiterplatte Circuit board
-==========================

Some of my questions reflect my shallow understanding of hardware (I'm usually software-only)

What is Gehau? (It is clipped on my Adobe Reader display)
What is difference between Einzelpreis & Gesamtpreis? Is this 'individual price' and 'total price'?
What is Reichelt? Is this the local supplier name?
What does METALL refer to? Does this mean 'wire resistor' as opposed to 'carbon resistor'?
What is elko?
How is (Kondensator) Capacitor different from (Blockkondensator) Block capacitor? Is one polarized and the other non-polarized?
Is Schultzdiode same a zener-diode?
What is Festspanniungsregler?
Is Quarz means quartz crystal oscillator?

Thanks!

> What is Gehau? (It is clipped on my Adobe Reader display)

Typing Error: it should be called "Gehäuse" - its the package type of the device.

> What is difference between Einzelpreis & Gesamtpreis? Is this 'individual price' and 'total price'?

Einzelpreis = price für one unit
Gesamtpreis = price for x units

> What is Reichelt? Is this the local supplier name?

Yes, its a electronic-dealer (http://www.reichelt.de/). As well CSD Electronics (http://www.csd-electronics.de/).

> What does METALL refer to? Does this mean 'wire resistor' as opposed to 'carbon resistor'?

Yes, METALL xxx (metal film resistor) its a refer by the dealer:

http://www.reichelt.de/?;ACTION=3;LA=44 ... 2280bfc52a

> What is elko?

Elko = its a shortcut for "electrolytic capacitor"

> How is (Kondensator) Capacitor different from (Blockkondensator) Block capacitor?
> Is one polarized and the other non-polarized?

No, in both cases it is a ceramic capacitor.

> Is Schultzdiode same a zener-diode?

Yes, its a Z-Diode.

> What is Festspanniungsregler?

Its a voltage regulators.

> Is Quarz means quartz crystal oscillator?

This is just a pure quartz.

A tip: you can refer the components by reichelt whith the number in the list - there are datasheets in english language as pdf for download.

Re: Looking for HELP in English

Does the BOM specify all the resistors must be 0.6 watt 1% tolerance metal film resistors?

I don't have many of these, and would like to use up my existing stock before making a purchase.

Can I replace any of the resistors on the BOM with 1/2 watt 5% tolerance carbon resistors, or with 1/4 watt 5% tolerance carbon resistors? I have loads of these.

If the tolerance is critical, is it sufficient to hand-measure the value of a resistor to ensure it is within 1% of the rated value?

Thanks!
