Beitrag von TuxFan »

Hallo zusammen!
Beispiel :
R123
1 = Unit
2 = Unterbaugruppe
3 = Laufende Nummer

Hi!
Herewith I publish the Gam_Bo_Prop scheme as a PDF-file so you can track the following soldering steps better.
Caution! At this time the board is only partly equipped and tested.
The whole scheme is divided into units and subunits. The numbering of the individual components follows the following scheme. The number of the component is three digits.
Example:
R123
1 = Unit
2 = sub-unit
3 = Current number
I will show in this thread, only pictures of assemblies or areas thereof which are so far completed, that they can be tested using software or other measuring devices. At the end of the thread when the Gam_Bo_Prop running well, I'll write a construction issue in which you can see the steps with more detailed images.

As this project is exclusively populated with SMD components, it is for an experienced hobbyist in electronics and not suitable for a beginner.

To be continued....

It goes on. Now we solder the power supply.
The subunit 2.1 includes the circuit for powersupply through the USB port.
The subunit 2.2 includes the voltage regulation (step-up regulator) for powersupply by two batteries (size AAA)
When the switch is soldered, the circuit (switch off) is powered through USB. If the USB port is properly connected to a PC, the regulator is always on and the yellow LED is on. If power-switch is on, the circuit is supplied from the batteries via the step-up regulator. If switch is off the battery is disconnected from the controller and the output of the step-up regulator is disconnected from the circuit.
Unit 2:
Subunit 2.1:
1. Soldering the LED (yellow LED211 0805)
2. Soldering of the resistor (R211 330Ohm 0805)
3. Soldering the two capacitors (C212 100nF 1206, C213 100nF 1206)
4. Soldering the two capacitors (C211 10μF 1206, C213 10μF 1206)
5. Soldering the LM1117 voltage regulator (IC211 max500mA 3.3V via USB)
6. Optical testing
7. Connection of the 5V power from USB cable. The LED should light and the 3.3 V output of the controller should be measured.
8. Power supply via USB off.

Subunit 2.2:
9. Soldering the step-up regulator LTC3525 (IC221 6-LEAD-SC70 3.3V 140mA max of 2 batteries), this is very tricky.
10. Optical inspection with a jeweler's loupe.
11. Solder the capacitor (C222 10μF 1206)
12. Solder the capacitor (1μF C221 1206)

Re: Bau des Gam_Bo_Prop / Building the Gam_Bo_Prop

Beitrag von TuxFan »

Hallo !

Zuerst eine Warnmeldung :
Achtung !

7. Löten der zwei Kondensatoren (C421 und C422 100nF 0805)
8. Löten des Quarzes (Q421 32,768kHz TC38)
9. Optical inspection with a jeweler's loupe.

Attention!
First, a warning message :
The construction and testing of the boards are more advanced than that described in this document. Therefore, the scheme has changed somewhat.
The modifications concern the keyboard-controller and the headphone amplifier.
Please do not use the above scheme for your own reconstructions at this time.

Now comes the heart of the Gam_Bo_Prop, the CPU module.
Unit 3 with subunit 4.1
1. Soldering the Propeller chip
2. Soldering the crystal (10MHz)
3. Soldering the two resistors from the sub-assembly 4.1 (R411, R412 10 KOhm 0805) after the soldering of C302 would it problematic to solder these two resistors.
4. Solder the 4 capacitors (C301, C302, C303 C304, each 100nF 0805)
Figure 1

This enables the CPU boot properly, and always know how it is late ;) , following the
Unit 4
Subunit 4.2
5. Soldering of EEPROM (IC421 24C512 SOIC8)
6. Soldering of the RTC (IC422 DS1338Z33 SOIC8). The DS1338Z33 can use the same software as the DS1307.
7. Soldering the two capacitors (C421 and C422 100nF 0805)
8. Soldering the crystal (32.768 kHz Q421 TC38)
9. Optical inspection with a jeweler's loupe.
10. The board comes with a USB cable connected to a PC and you can test the circuit with the testprogram 1 (GBP_RTC_T1.spin).
11. If the test program is running properly, the battery holder for the RTC to be soldered and a battery is inserted

Re: Bau des Gam_Bo_Prop / Building the Gam_Bo_Prop

Beitrag von TuxFan »

Hallo !

7. Backlight-Test mit Testprogramm 2 (GBP_BGLED_T2.spin).
8. Grafik-Test with Testprogramm 3 (GBP_LCD_T3.spin).
Bild 4

Hello!
In building the first prototype of the Gam_Bo_Prop I first soldered some parts of the unit 6. This is not usefull while Installing the LCD display. So you should solder subunit 5.1 and 5.2 and ignore the built-in SD card holder on some pictures.

Unit 5
Subunit 5.1
1. Solderjumper sets the port 6 of the display to GND.
2. Solder the capacitor (C511 100nF 0805)
3. Solder the five resistors (R511 to R515 47Ohm 0805)
4. Soldering the FET-transistor (BS20)
This module takes control of the backlight.
Figure 1

Subunit 5.2
1. Preparing a construction consisting of double wall corrugated board. So you can fix the display cable and solder it better.
2. Fixing the board with pins.
Figure 2
3. Fixing the display cable with two needles on the board. For this purpose, are extra holes in the cable and the board. One of these holes would be blocked by the SD card holder. Therefore, install this later.
4. Soldering of the display cable
5. Optical control
Figure 3
6. Put display on the board in the fixation holes and fix it with tape.
7. Backlight-Test with testprogram 2 (GBP_BGLED_T2.spin).
8. Grafik-Test with testprogram 3 (GBP_LCD_T3.spin).
Figure 4

The display driver (MIO283QT 2.spin), published in Parallax forum, is for graphical output quite well. What is still missing, is an output of e text. The text output is required for the test of SD card, SRAM and Flash.

So heute geht es an die Tasten.

Baugruppe 7
1. Löten des Kondensators (C701 100nF 0805)
2. Löten des Dezimal nach BCD-Encoders (IC701 74HC147 soic16)
Bild 1:
4. Löten der acht pull up Widerstände (R701 bis R708 10kOhm 0805)
Bild 3:
9. Optische Prüfung.

1. Solder the capacitor (C701 100nF 0805)
2. Soldering of the decimal to BCD encoder (IC701 74HC147 SOIC16)
3. Soldering of a jumper (shame on me, during the planning I did not notice that the entrance was not used and must be properly connected to VCC.)
Figure 1:
4. Soldering the eight pull up resistors (R701 to R708 10k 0805)
5. Shorten the lead wires (max. 1.5 mm long) of the three buttons (S702, S703 and S704) that are located underneath the battery.

Re: Bau des Gam_Bo_Prop / Building the Gam_Bo_Prop

Baugruppe 8:
1. Löten der zwei Kondensatoren (C804 und C805 100nF 0805)
2. Löten der zwei Kondensatoren (R801 und R802 220Ohm 0805)
3. Löten der zwei Kondensatoren (C806 und C807 10µF 1206)
Bild 1.
4. Löten von zwei Drahtbrücken
Bild 2.
5. Löten von zwei Widerständen (R803 und R804 2k7 bis 4k7 1206)
6. Löten der Kopfhörerbuchse

Untergruppe 1.2 :
7. Löten des Reset-Tasters

8. Optische Kontrolle
9. Audio-Test mit Testprogramm 6 (GBP_AUDIO_T6.spin)
Bild 2.

Let's go with the audio output. The plan is a simple stereo audio output for headphones. The tone (pitch and volume) is to be realized by PWM. At first one was planned with 2dB gain headphone amplifier. It turned out that despite the low gain, the volume control was not realized properly through with PWM. The amplifier chip was therefore replaced by two wire bridges that connect the former inputs and outputs. The two output capacitors were replaced by two resistors (2.7kOhm to 4,7kOhm) replaced in series with the headphones to also reduce the volume in the headphones.

Unit 8 :
1. Soldering the two capacitors (C804 and C805 100nF 0805)
2. Soldering the two capacitors (R801 and R802 220ohm 0805)
3. Soldering the two capacitors (C806 and C807 10μF 1206)

4. Soldering two wire bridges
5. Soldering of two resistors (R803 and R804 2k7 to 4k7 1206)
6. Soldering the headphone jack

Subunit 1.2 :
7. Soldering the reset-button

8. optical control

Re: Bau des Gam_Bo_Prop / Building the Gam_Bo_Prop

Heute muß endlich der Batteriehalter eingebaut werden.

Baugruppe 2 :
Unterbaugruppe 2.2 :

Today finally the battery holder must be installed.

Unit 2:
Subunit 2.2:
1. The simplest solution I've provided spiral spring contacts for the minus-pole. Those used here come from a broken CD player.
Both springs had to be shortened.
Figure 1.
2. Then they are soldered to the inward-facing rectangular solder pads.
3. Soldering the contact boards into the motherboard to the 16 solder pads
Figure 2.
4. Insert the batteries and turn power on. If a test program is already installed, this should start now.
